Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth. There are two types of dentures; complete and partial. Complete dentures are used when all of your teeth are missing, and partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, and also prevents other teeth from shifting.
There are two types of complete dentures, “conventional” and “immediate.” Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. The healing process can take between 4-6 weeks. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed in the mouth after teeth are removed.
Am I a good candidate for dentures?
A good candidate for dentures is an individual who has experienced significant tooth loss. Paige Family Dentistry in Richmond, VA has the experience and knowledge to help you decide if this is the right procedure for you.
Even though dentures are not “real” teeth, you should care for them as though they are. Brush them regularly to remove plaque and food before removing them. Your dentures are delicate, so make sure you are careful when handling them!
